Local people telling their own stories
In partnership with organisations in selected UK towns, carefully chosen talented local storytellers went through a tailored training programme and joined a specialist video unit from The Guardian, empowering them to tell their own story. The project was run in partnership with International Media Support.
New Media Academy
Aiming to strengthen independent journalism in Turkey through training, networking, mentoring, mini grants and producing learning materials. Journalists at the beginning of their careers applied to the New Media Academy to gain training and funding to develop a news product, including podcasts, websites and newsletters. They were supported by experienced journalism professionals and trainers, covering a range of topics and experiences.

The Guardian Foundation provided Training of Trainers for Academy teachers, and arranged for nine of them to come to London to take part in workshops and one-to-one sessions with Guardian staff.

Alongside in-person training, NewsLab Turkey produced a range of high-quality, freely available learning resources in Turkish, including a regular Newsletter, video training and hundreds of articles and translations, providing Turkish journalists and media entrepreneurs with the information they needed for establishing their own newsrooms or for keeping their newsrooms sustainable and relevant in the constantly changing media environment.
