This scheme aimed to provide people with the training and experience needed to break into journalism. It particularly focused on the production side of journalism.
Interns joined Cafeyn’s global editorial team in London for a period of 6 months. During the scheme, they received dedicated training and experience at Cafeyn.
In partnership with organisations in selected UK towns, carefully chosen talented local storytellers went through a tailored training programme and joined a specialist video unit from the Guardian, empowering them to tell their own story. The result was top class video journalism, examining the social challenges people are facing, and working together with local people to cover the issues that affect them.
The Syria in Depth programme provided training for Syrian journalists and organisations who are in exile, focusing on in-depth stories. Journalists produced investigations throughout the duration of the project to implement and reinforce learnings, and training is provided to build capacity of their organisations. The project was run in partnership with International Media Support.
This programme worked with partner NewsLabTurkey to strengthen independent journalism in Turkey through training, networking, mentoring, mini grants and producing learning materials.
This programme evolved into the Incubator for Independent Media in Turkey, which will run until early 2025.
